Professor Asher Hildebrand on Polarization and the Upcoming Election, Voice of America 

Professor Asher Hildebrand was quoted in an article by Salomé Ramírez and Yeny García for Voices of America on polarization and the current election cycle. Hildebrand notes that he thinks the economy and democracy are at the top of voters’ minds: “Each candidate’s supporters will define it in different ways…But for me, those two issues are central and many others, whether abortion rights, immigration, health care and others, can be seen through those lenses.” He also comments that the issue of polarization is not merely about disagreement on specific topics; it’s rooted in the seemingly conflicting viewpoints between Republicans and Democrats as they have “come to see each other as existential threats.”
