With the current supermajority, Republicans have been able to implement more conservative measures, such as a stricter 12-week abortion ban. He argued that the upcoming General Assembly elections and governor’s race will determine the extent of Republican influence: “If [Lt. Gov.] Mark Robinson is the next governor of North Carolina, then it’s not going to matter all that much whether Republicans have an outright majority or supermajority in the legislature.” McCorkle commented that “there are not many split-ticket voters” in North Carolina.
