Duke Political Experts Abdullah Antepli, Mark Dalhouse, & Mac McCorkle on the Assassination Attempt Against Former President Trump, The Chronicle

Polis Director Abdullah Antepli, Trinity Academic Dean Mark Dalhouse, and Sanford Professor Mac McCorkle spoke to The Chronicle on the assassination attempt against Former President Donald Trump.

Antepli argues “[There are] unprecedented levels of dehumanization and polarization taking place in American society. Violence is an inevitable outcome.”

Similarly, Dalhouse states that “we’ve been in a heightened culture of violent rhetoric.” He also asserts, “I think this is a time that we each individually can put into action the values of a liberal arts education, the values of what Duke stands for… taking the time to put these events in context, looking at it critically, [and] exercising some intellectual humility.”

All experts highlighted the assassination attempts potential implications on the Presidential Election. McCorkle argues that Trump’s “larger than life” image after surviving the attempt gives him “a real advantage” over Biden.
