‘Have you voted yet?’: Scenes from Democracy Day 2024, The Chronicle

On November 1, 2024, members from Duke Votes, Duke Student Government, and Duke Graduate and Professional Student Government hosted Democracy Day to encourage student participation in the general election. The event featured activities on Bryan Center Plaza, including informational booths, free food, live music, and a panel discussion with Durham Mayor Leonardo Williams and Professor Frank Bruni on the state of democracy in North Carolina. Organizers emphasized the importance of early voting and addressed challenges such as voter ID requirements and polling location closures—the initiative aimed to boost voter turnout among students and foster civic engagement within the university community.
