Chloe Nguyen (PPS ’24) has received the George J. Mitchell Scholarship

Baldwin Scholar and Nakayama Public Service Scholar Chloe Nguyen has received the George J. Mitchell Scholarship for a year of graduate study in Ireland. Chloe is one of 12 American students selected for the program. Recipients are chosen based on academic distinction, leadership, and service.

Professor Deondra Rose says, “We send our heartiest congratulations to Chloe Nguyen on her selection as a Mitchell Scholar.  During the summer of 2021, as Polis grappled with how we could help address the chronic polarization that has permeated the political landscape and help Duke students find ways to engage in generative, mutually respectful, and authentic conversations, Chloe developed “A Call for Leadership: Political Polarization and Civic Discourse at Duke University,” a paper that explored the state of civil discourse at Duke.  Chloe’s research helped to shape Polis’s partnership with Braver Angels, as well as the development of other signature programs like Project Citizen.”

Chloe also discussed her work during the Combating Hate and Bias panel, “The Unifiers: Fostering Transformative Conversation Across Differences.”
