This semester, POLIS launched its first Congressional Intern Program. In early September, four undergraduate Duke students will begin strategically pursuing a Capitol Hill summer internship in Washington, DC. The year will culminate in a summer experience that will advance the students’ career goals.
We sought ambitious applicants who will fearlessly pursue a summer position. This means being comfortable cold-calling congressional offices. It means being available over Fall Break to spend two days in Washington, DC (all expenses paid by POLIS) circulating the halls of Congress in pursuit of a meaningful position. It means tracking and following up with hiring managers. And throughout the process, a POLIS advisor will counsel students on resume writing, cover letters, phone demeanor, interviews, and so on.
POLIS guarantees that each participant who completes the program will earn at least a $1,000 stipend toward their summer internship.
